Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

On my way to levelling Sunh to 60 I finally decided to hit the Eastern
Plaguelands. I have picked up the PvP quest to occupy the four towers (the
quests didn't exist when Urbin levelled there and I had never bothere to do
it with him).

According to what I read on, you need to be PvP flagged and wait inside the
tower for a certain time (5 minutes?) while the "occupation bar" moves
towards your faction.

Some people say this only works if the towers are neutral or in opposite
hands, some say it even works if they already belong to your faction.

I tried this last night, but as Alliance seems to have an overwhelming
presence in the EPL, the towers usually belong to us all the time (usually
4/4 towers, at "worst" 3/4). I sat in an alliance tower with my PvP flag on,
watched the bar move towards alliance until it reached the extreme left end
and then waited for another 5 minutes (totalling it to 11) but never got
credit for capturing it. This makes me believe that those who claim that the
tower has to be horde or neutral in order for me to succeed.

Now my question is: How on Azeroth can I ever complete this quest if most of
the towers are constantly in alliance hands? Is there a time when the towers
fall back into neutral state? Or do they have to be caputred back by horde
before I can retake them?

Any hints?

Cheers

Yup, basically you can't complete these quests if outdoor pvp is
inactive on your server.

I'd suggest you wait for TBC/the "ciao honor" patch before starting to
flag yourself for captures, the system is a bit more enticing: on top
of quests you get marks for captures, which you can turn in for faction
rewards.

Ok, in that case I'll drop the quest.

How does a tower go to "neutral" once it was captured? Through the weekly
server reboots only?

I don't know if this will make a difference, I think people interested in
honour (no matter whether it's the old or new kind) prefer the battle
grounds (I'm on a pve server), so even that change might not make much
difference...

One of the guys in my raidgroup has a Hordie alt. So we all got on Ventrilo
and went round EPL picnicking together - got the quest completed for both
sides.

Not quite functioning as intended, there...

Hihi, that thought had crossed my mind Smile

It has to 'change state' while you're inside the range where you can see
the occupation bar. It has to switch to your faction from some other
setting.

That's all I've been able to figure out so far. At random intervals other
weird stuff has appeared at the tower, such as a flight master to take you
just to the other towers, or an item you can take for a buff. It's pretty
sketchy.

You don't have to capture all of the towers at once. The quest checks off
one tower at a time - if you see a tower you still need that's owned by
the enemy or neutral, capture it and you'll finish that part of the quest. *

I forgot to answer this - the state gradually decays back to neutral if
nobody is there to defend it. *

Thanks, I was afraid of that.

I realise that. However, of the four towers, I have only seen two that are
not Alliance *ever* as long as I can remember. So I might get around to
capturing those two that are most often (or rather least seldom) neutral or
horde, but I don't see myself getting the other two.

Ah, I might need to visit briefly at odd times on a weekday morning Smile

Why do some posts not indent (probably my fault for using OE). On our server
you often see an alliance ride up to the tower alone then log out, then a
horde rides up and takes it over unchallenged, as soon as it goes over the
horde fades and the original ally returns to recap it. You can see it happen
around each tower as you grind so it seems the only way to do it is have a
horde alt ( or a friend with one ) and just do a joint run around them.

It is worth knowing that holding the North tower means you can grab a buff
from the shrine that appears at its entrance that gives (I think) extra hp
for 30 mins.

Also note: it decays faster and faster as more players of the opposite
faction get into range of the tower. A group of 5 can swap it over fairly
quickly, provided nobody comes by to chase you off. *

I also still need to get 2 of the towers ... as I'm Horde I could help
you on DM Smile

Thanks, but amazingly last night 2 towers were neutral and two were horde so
I went to pick up the quest and even more amazingly nobody else occupied
them before I managed to finish all four.

So now I suggest you contact me if you want to arrange something Smile Though I
guess you'll be fine with the towers mostly in Alliance hands...

Thanks for the offer though
