Well, I've talked to WotC. I've talked to Hasbro. I've talked to the R&D
dept., and I've talked to their marketing dept.

4th edition is just a rumour so far; even the R&D haven't worked on it yet.
They are making more than enough money from the D&D product line, especially
miniatures, but for the time being they will hold D&D -because- it
encourages more sales, and not for any other reason.

In addition to that, 3.5ed is getting far too much revision and updates from
the PHB/DMGII+ to make a "4th edition" viable at this stage; that, and
they'd have to change the rules for their still-profitable miniatures lines.
All in all, it's not worth the change.

Now, keep in mind, this is only what I've been told, and if there's one
thing in the industry I know it's to keep secrets to yourself. But
hopefully, that should help settle a few feathers.

Mr Badger sez "I bet you we wont see 4th edition in the shops before
2009"

By then we will be wearing silvers trousers and living in space

and the PS3 will be out

2008 at the latest. Likely enough for the season to be shopping in
2007. Of course, were anyone in a position to know, they be under a
big-ass NDA.

Bah. Beat me to it.

Hey, who knows, we might have another reasonably original game in
the next few years. It's been long enough since the Shooter, Strat,
Sport, Pilot, and Sim games came out.

And my witty follow-up to this article.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.
