I don't ever want to put my imagination and desire to game on the shelf.
But I do feel like an old grognard for seeing 4E as a major step in the
wrong direction for my favorite hobby. I would love to embrace the new
edition and see a bright shiny future for D&D. But I don't.

I'm in my 30s, and I only started playing this "childish game" seriously in
my 30s. I don't think I'm any less childish now than I was five years ago -
though I do have quite a few more friends now than I did then.

Any games you know of that aren't childish?
Any hobbies?
Childish is an approach to an activity. Perhaps the attitude is what
needs to be left behind?

No.

I think so. I got over worrying that people would think I was "childish"
about fifteen years ago, maybe twenty.

Not me. I'm excited about 4e. It might not prove to be
everything that I hoped it would be, but I'm looking forward to
finding out. And I'd like to get back to my Call of Cthulhu
(1920s) and Delta Green games soon, too. I find that older I
get, the less I give a damn what other people might think of my
hobbies.

I'm looking forward to retirement (within the next decade, less if all
goes well) so I can spend _more_ time on my childish games
I'm very near the half-century mark; I expect to teach 3.5 to my kids
this summer (I think they're old enough now).
Are planning on taking up more "grown up" hobbies? Like going outside
on your porch in your bath robe and slippers, shaking your cane at the
kids these days, and telling them to get off your lawn? >> Stay informed about: 4th Edition makes me feel old |
