Yeah. I'm seriously thinking of starting a game at the paragon tier,
actually, as opposed to working my way up to it. I kinda like that wahoo
stuff, and I've grown tired of D&D/MMO-style grind.

No!! You must begin a campaign scuffling for copper pieces to
buy arrows! It is a moral imperative!

And I would LOVE a Big Trouble in Little China RPG, enough that
I'm already kicking myself for not coming up with the idea
years ago... Wink

And I know what you mean about it sounding less like the D&D
we've known, and more like a whole new game. I think/hope that
it's going to be a great new game, and that I can drop it into
the same slot in my RPGing hobby time that D&D currently fills.
I don't have quite the sentimental attachment to the trappings
of D&D that a lot of longtime D&D players have... to me, D&D
is just the best balanced/most playable fantasy adventure
game - if another game did a better job of filling that niche,
I'd use it. I guess we'll see soon enough whether 4e is going
to be that game...

Our group hasn't been doing Eberron, so I've just gotten around to
looking at some of the things there. Woah - talk about printing
money! An "Heir of Siberys" (ECS p.80-81) Prestige Class from the
Cannith Family (Mark of Making) can cast TRUE CREATION as a Spell-like
ability at 15th level (1/day at 2nd level HoS, 2/day at 3rd level
HoS.) Normally what keeps the TRUE CREATION spell in check is that it
costs you XP equal to the gp value of what you create in ECS (or 1/2
that if using the Spell Compendium version). But when you cast things
as Spell-like abilities there =are= no components - that means no V,
S, M =or= XP (PH, p.180). So you can create 15 cubic feet of gold,
mithral or adamantine once or twice per day for free. Or maybe a 15
cubic foot diamond. Yikes!

Is there something out there that modifies this? FAQ, Errata, etc.?

Eberron Campaign Setting Errata

Page 81: Heir of Siberys Prestige Class
The Siberys Mark of Making grants the spell-like ability of true
creation once per day. Add the following sentence to the Mark of
Making paragraph:
The heir of Siberys must pay the normal XP cost of the true creation
spell (see page 117) each time he uses this ability.

The game is already out. It's called Feng Shui. It even has a
character template which clearly draws from Jack Burton: the Everyman
Hero.

Just don't use the background, if you want to keep it "pure" BTiLC.
All the mechanics you need are right there. It's one of my favorite
RPGs of all time.

Still invoking that false god Game Balance. Or rather, the false
PERCEPTION of the God Game Balance. You won't find Game Balance in the
book, any more than you'll find Jehovah in the Torah or God in the
Bible. You'll find Game Balance in the play and the players. If the
players WANT balance, they'll have it. If they don't, they won't.

Is Feng Shui any good? I mean the RPG, not the concept...

It's one of my favorite games of all time, as I said. That tells you
that *I* think it's great. It's one of the games I have to tweak least
in order to run it.

Your patches seem reasonable to me. I've always questioned the
extreme limitaions on the lowest level utility spells. (Your
daily number of cantrips don't even improved by ability score,
fer chrisakes!) 3.X improved so many other "obvious" things
I've always wondered why they kept the clamps down so tightly
on 0-level spells (which anyway are mosty about flavor, not
game balance).

I am willing to bet the party member can choose not to slide. He probably
cannot choose the direction of the slide (which is a factor of the Warlord's
tactical advice, so that makes sense), but he can always choose not to move.
