Thought I'd mention that ThirdWizard on EN World has put together a pdf
containing the stats for all 4E monsters seen so far, the fast-play
rules, the list of conditions, additional notes from the boards, and a
link to the pregen chars. It's your one-stop shop for playing 4E!

All you 4orons can get it here:

I prefer the term "4runners," myself.

I really don't like the 'monster' human wizard. He's all boom, and
not really much of that. Where's the grease, the charm, the sleep,
the enlarge? I have a feeling I'm going to really hate the 4e
wizard. That could really kill the game for me.

Why did they give him such a high wisdom with everything else so low?

Ah, they just made the NPC a boom wizard. That's o.k. I guess. Not
my style, but it's a possibility.

I see sleep there at least. Still a lot of boom powers, but looks
better. O.K. I'll put my overreaction away...

I still don't get this. The PC has a high Dex and outrageous Int. I
thought Dex and Int did the same thing in 4e?

Sigh. I guess this is what comes of trying to make judgments from an
incomplete picture.

That's the simplified wizard for when you just want someone to nuke the
PCs. Nothing stops you writing up an NPC wizard using PC chargen rules.

One of the pregen PCs for D&DXP was a wizard, and you can find him here:

Oh yea, that seems almost over the top. Maybe not almost. It's a lot
better than 3.5's mage hand too beyond being able to do it all day
long. There's a whole hell of a lot I could do with that in a
dungeon.

There's still some wizard cheese to look forward to, and that's only
1st level.

It seems to me that being able to do stuff like Mage Hand and/or
Light "at will" makes D&D Wizard seem almost like... you know,
*wizards*. As opposed to people who at high levels can execute
absolutely mind-blowing amounts of death and destruction, but
can still only cast Light once, because that's all they
memorized. Razz

I totally agree.

Heh. I am just hoping they get the whole "mind-blowing amounts of death and
destruction" part right. From what I have seen, the upper level stuff seems
nerfed.

One begins to understand and empathize with why royalty from time to
time had court jesters tortured and/or executed.

The role of the Jester was to tell the King the truth via humor and
verse. He may well be the only person in Court that could do that and
not be executed. In many ways he played the role of Jimney Cricket.

Hong is failing miserably at this if he is the newsgroups Jester. The
joke on D&D players is 4E.

Every Jester or Bard walked a fine line.

All jokes wear thin if you overuse them.

4e is a fine game. The joke is that marketing people really expect you
not to call bullshit when you see it. They took the D&D brand name and
slapped it onto a different game that keeps a few of the same mechanics.

I just read the link that was posted earlier to some warlord powers

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20080314&authenticate=true

These guys really expect cool to override the BS that is causing SoD to
go into Ultraviolet Alert.

Yes, that's what Matt would say.

Pfah. This is your opportunity to robustify your suspension of
disbelief. What kind of self-respecting grognard fails to seize the
opportunity to indulge in a character-building exercise?
