Some guys at work have just found WH40K.
We've scheduled a game for Sunday. It's going to be a minimum game to start
(One HQ and two troops) I will be playing Orks, which I have never played
before.
Do I take flamers or missile boyz?

After the first game we are going to do a 1500 point game, should I take
trucks and buggies or keep it on the hoof? Will my bikes (5) come in handy?

I'd probably forgo the rokkits and just take lots and lots of Shoota
Boyz and Nobz with Power Klaws and a Warboss with an 'Uge Choppa.

With a BS of 2 vs a template weapon in a small game with little or
no vehicles - do you 'really' have to ask? Wink

Go mobile, the vehicles are mainly expendable rapid transit, but
the bikes with a power claw can get around and do some bad bad things.

Hope that helps,

Skellie Proxies...

Blue Raja - You could proxy skellington rules for the unit with no
rules. "Ph34r m`/ 1337 5+33dz 0f 5k311|n9+0nz!"

Old Bear - This is a logical step and one which GW can't really object
to, being as they have raised no objections to skellies proxying in
general. I've actually been driving to work in one for about three
weeks now. It's proxying as a 1956 Austin Cambridge, and is quite
impressive.

Yeah Uge Choppa sounds like a nob joke, take one of those.

Leave the rokkits to Kanz and vehicles, if you have them. Bikes are
nice, especially if the Nob has a Klaw.

Hi Scott

If they've only just started getting into 40K I'd keep it as simple as
possible. No special characters or wargear. I'd prepare some simple
reference charts for the units/ weapons you'll both be using and I'd
make sure I had loads of dice.

In answer to you orignal question I'd take flamers as Template weapons
will make a nice visual change from the dice rolls.

Play the long game. Don't worry about winning these games. Just ensure
that they have an enjoyable first few games, don't be a rules lawyer
and you'll end up with two good buddies to play with in the future.

Hope it works out OK ;- currently I'm trying to find some golf
partners where I work but it's quite hard when you're not very good !

We had a lot of fun.
THe biggest gaff was in the first game we actually split it so that it was
two games at once: Orks vs Necrons and IG vs SM.
I used the Waagh rule incorrectly restricting it to just one unit. The Space
marine player conferred all of his characters special abilities to his whole
unit.
Ooops..

The second game was only 750 points. Necron and Orks vs IG and SM The
problem there was that the table was too big: 9' x 5'
I didn't have points for trucks or buggies so needless to say after 5 turns
I only had managed to get one unit into HTH.
The marine devastators were... devastating. but the best weapon on a table
that big was the Leman Russ of the IG.

I'll do better next time.

Points? Missions? Terrain? Obscene conversions?
Details, man! When you've the time, of course.

You'd do better to play 1500pt matches on a 4x6 and smaller on a 4x4.
On either, Alpha Cleanse on a Bloodbowl pitch gets old really fast.
Get the guys together for a terrain-building beer and bbq bash.
(Or whatever the bonding convention may be in your area.)

Keep those reports coming!

None, just 1 hq and 2 troops (limited to 10 troops)

Missions?

Kill

Terrain?

Way too much

Obscene conversions?

Space Marine player had a chaplain with lightning claws. He conferred the
bonus on the whole unit.

I'd like to see all BatReps start with an Executive summary. I always just
skip to the end for who won\lost and the swearing. The rest bores me Smile

Oh ok. If you write a narrative of the battle and then write a turn by
turn break down I'd read the narrative.

You just try to get your precious Gav to write a decent narrative.
