I only know of one guy who does it, and he does it as a joke, and it's
blatantly obvious he's not a woman despite the lipstick, makeup,
fingernail paint, and purse. Imagine a big biker fellow wearing a
dress and makeup and you'd have a pretty apt description. He's not a
gamer, though, he's actually a mechanic.

I think the idea of hitting on anyone online is stupid... despite its
obvious problems, millions of people do it, though.
I just don't like the idea of anyone misrepresenting themselves
online. If you want a good example for how it can go horribly wrong
despite people on the other end having the best of intentions, go back
and Google the "Lisa Grayson" topics. The whole idea is, well,
somewhat disturbing - both talking to a female who turns out to be a
male, and the realization that said guy is willing to pretend to be a
girl (though I'll grant some of them are probably quite happy with
their masculinity and are doing it for kicks).
There's a lot of other issues, too, I just picked the easy target.

You are, of course, refering to the notorious Hobo Sloop that sailed the
hudson in the early 1950s. Crewed by 15 destitute men she was. Elliot Ness
himself spent his retirement years looking for them. Later, he met a girl
online and married. They had seven children. There were no survivors. >> Stay informed about: [40k] 5th Ed soon to be released? |

But there are satires in WoW. But they are spelled satyrs. They are in
Azhara and Mauraden. I don't know where you are going with this.

any more silly than playing a ttwg on the computer? seriously, youre the
last person in the world who should ever have an opinion about anyting or
anyone...ever.
> Plus, what if you wanted to play on an official server or whatever,
> assuming such a thing existed?
er yes but each server has its own rules and thus you can ALWAYS play on the
server you enjoy with the rules that are acceptable to you. there is no
"official" server only the original game itself which is a one player game.
the online portion is made by players for players for...get this...free. i
can make my own character, then make others, several in fact, and never have
to pay for more than i originally purchased the game for. and if the
designer of the module pisses me off i can give him the bird and go to
another module.
You'd have to use THEIR rules, just
> like you do if you're in a GW tourney. However, if you're not in a

but i can be on a server and play alone, adventuring as i see fit youd look
pretty stupid playing both sides of a battle by yourself. but youre used to
playing with yourself so maybe youre better at it than me.
The Necro is on the GW tourney

but you have to pay for those figures...i dont have to pay again ever.

if youre in a gw store you will be removed.
You're thinking in terms of doing

i am independent. hence why i quit playing with children and found few
adults who act like adults and still play the game. i know a few and am good
friends with them...i just havent seen them in a while.

no, you make my point for me. i do not need to pay for anything after buying
the original game. i might need to pay 19.95 for a supliment. one. so i pay
that and then download it. find a server i enjoy playing on and play for
free from that point onwards. i can do anything i want. play what i want,
change characters when i want. i never have to pay more than the original
price of the game. >> Stay informed about: [40k] 5th Ed soon to be released? |

Oddly, he makes sense offline, I have no idea why his posts on the
Internet are so illegible.

Meh... Just because you have a hard time enjoying yourself doesn't
mean other people do. The group around here is quite human and quite
interesting and fun, even if we have our disagreements at times (I was
recently admonished for threatening to shoot another person). People
get together evey week on set days, have fun, play games, sit around
and talk between games. Good stuff
Now, the Privateer Press gamers are another thing. They're always
enjoying themselves, planning some new tourney or league or something.
They always get along, no disputes, no rules arguments, no debates
about sportsmanship and composition scoring. It's like the anti-GW.

Well gosh! That sounds like GW games - once you've bought your rules
and figures, you're good to go. Don't like the rules for one tourney?
Play at another! Don't want to play in a tourney you have to pay for?
Get someone to run one you don't have to pay for! (Generally, the
payment pays for expense, such as trophies, like my nice hammer.)
Want to try something new? Introduce some house rules to the group!

That's a dumb argument to make. You can't play most non-computer
games without someone else. What's your point? I realize for a sad
sap like you that it would be a problem to have to play with other
people, but that's not a problem for most of us. In fact, it's
actually more enjoyable.

So? Same argument can be made for any computer game. Now you're
comparing apples to oranges. And once I've paid for those figures, "I
don't have to pay again ever" either. So what's your point? That
it's cheaper? Well, fine, throw in the cost of a PC and see if it is.

Again with the "GW store". They aren't the only stores around, you
know.

Well I know plenty of adults who play the game and do their own thing
without blindly following all of GW's guidelines.

So? That's the same with any computer game. You're comparing two
different hobbies now. But the same thing could still happen to NWN
in a heartbeat. I believe NWN1 was 3E while NWN2 was 3.5E, now 4E is
coming out and you can bet they'll have a new version for it too. So
then most people migrate to that, so you have to buy that also anyway,
or just keep playing alone. It happens with all games.
I could play a few GW games, and still have plenty of people to play
against, without paying out much at all. The cost argument defeats
itself anyway, even without bringing the cost of a PC to play said PC
games on into it (or the cost of electricity for running said PC, and
the required online connection).
The point is, you're going to have hurdles, rules, costs, all that
stuff no matter what games you're playing, especially if you want to
play with anyone else. You can't say an online game really allows you
to be any more independent than any other game.
