Hey guys,
I installed Tribes 2 on my laptop... it runs very smoothly at 1920x1200
at more than 100 fps in full quality on a 20 players server. I remember
those bad FPS we ran into back in 2001... hmmm below 10 fps on Dead bird
fly
The bad part is that there are so few players online these days.
I'm still on a very bad learning curve in the FREAKING KEYBOARD section.
I'm used to play with the numpad since my Unreal and Quake 2 days.
Simple games like Counter Strike are OK now since they require so few
keys to master. But I'm running into walls to control correctly my
player in Tribes 2.
You will say get an external numpad... no it won't work since I use the
numpad for the main inputs and the arrows for the pack, mine, grenade
and beacon.
So I'm cornered I have to learn to use the WASD thingy or in my case
AZSE. (french keyboard) And don't get me started on the Windows key that
require to be disabled when you want to play. ARGHHHHHHH :[
Regards,

What are the vital stats of said laptop? I didn't start getting decent
framerates in T2
> The bad part is that there are so few players online these days.
That's sad. I was hoping to get back online with some games in the
near future*, and always thought Tribes was the best of them. Is it
just T2 that has almost nobody playing, or original Tribes as well?
Guess it's going to be Unreal Tournament 2004 for online teamplay.
*live in Portland but work near Seattle, and I keep my main computer
where I stay during the week with no internet connection of my own.
When I get work in Portland, my main box gets an online hookup.

Unless you play the myriad of bad mods for T2, then there is basically an
all Katabatic server running V2 (I know thats a bad mod too but not
outlandish in weapons and imbalances etc), or the remaining competition
crowd playing Classic on either Mofo's TB or one of Nix's servers when they
are up, but usually not on both. There are duel servers and some Lak games
going on too.

Just plug a regular keyboard into the PS/2 or USB ports. That's what I did
when taking my 2004 HP laptop to LAN's. I also bring along an external
mouse so I don't have to deal with the touchpad.
I just upgraded the ATI driver to the latest Omega driver so that I could
play WoW on it. I get a lot of stop-motion as I guess WoW is a bit more
demanding than T2, if you can believe it. >> Stay informed about: Tribes 2 on a 2005 laptop |

MA and BEML run periodic pickups, and our die-hards can be found playing on
the surviving servers. And I leave the MA servers running, so you can
overflow into those. >> Stay informed about: Tribes 2 on a 2005 laptop |

Hey, Faramir! Long time, mate.
It's good news that T2 runs on a current laptop, because my wife just
bought herself a shiny new laptop with a gig of ram and a 64-bit
processor!
I'm sure she wouldn't mind me commandeering it for a T2 fix on the
road now and then.

Not particularly. I just thought it sounded like a good name for a grunt on

I got spoiled by my Nostromo Speedpad. I love that thing in Tribes 2.
Literally everything is at my finger tips.

Yeah, I never have the winkey set to pop a menu up. And from my mac usage
(which the winkey is the same as Apple's command button), I map that in
games quite a bit. I have it mapped for the speak button on TeamSpeak. >> Stay informed about: Tribes 2 on a 2005 laptop |

oops, I moved on to my next paragraph before I was finished with that
one, which should have read: "I didn't start getting decent framerates
in T2 until I got an Athlon 1700+ with 256MB and a GEForce 2MX a few
years back." Your laptop beats the system I was running back then --
I've still got the 1700+ but have over a gig of RAM and a newer, better
GEForce card (don't remember what iteration - might be 6800)

Tribes is free? Damn, twenty bucks down the toilet :-\
Of course, it wasn't free back in '99 when I got it.

From what I hear, you'll need more hands, and you won't have radar to help

Time and attention. That's all they need... food too. And air. Food,
Air, Time and Attention. And clothes. Man, these kids demand a LOT!
Kids are hilarious because everything is new to them. My youngest,
just the other day, was drinking from a cup and decided to gesture
wildly.
She cried when what she was drinking suddenly became what she was
wearing. The sudden shock of cold liquid pouring over your head is
evidently unpleasant.
And she didn't really seem to like the fact that everyone at the table
was laughing at her. >> Stay informed about: Tribes 2 on a 2005 laptop |
