What does +14 defense rating do for a level 25 character?

Defense rating decreases the chance for monsters land a critical strike
or crushing blow on you, increases the chance they'll miss you altogether,
and increases your chance to dodge, parry or block an incoming hit.

In my opinion, defense rating isn't worthwhile until you get to level 70.
At your level, stamina and armor are much more valuable stats.

Each point of Defense adds 0.04% to miss, block, parry and dodge (if
you have each of those skills). It also decreases the chance that you
will be critically hit. You are normally allowed to gain 5 points of
defense per level, so another way to look at it is that you defend as
if you were higher level.

In your case, the +14 Defense item adds +0.56% to your chance to be
missed, parry and dodge, meaning about 1 time in 60, an attack will
miss that would normally have hit. Another 0.56% of the time, you get
an extra shield block, if you are wearing one, that you wouldn't have
otherwise had. You will suffer critical hits as though you were
almost three levels higher than you really are (i.e. less often).

Depends on the character. I geared my paladin for AOE grinding somewhere in
the mid 30s, and I've been gearing for defense ever since. It has made
instancing in Outland easy; For example when running underbog as a level 62
the healer commented about how my unusually high +defense made me very easy
to keep alive. I've also been uncrittable for the longest time. I've solo'd
many 3-man quests (albeit rather slowly at times)

I specifically asked what a +14 bonus to defense rating will do to a
level 25 character's Defense skill, but no one seems to know the answer
to this question.

Have you checked www.warcrafter.net? It has a sandbox mode that should allow
you to substitute different equipment.

Wowwiki has a page on defense, but only lists the DR->DS ratios for levels 60
and 70. No discussion as far as I can tell for anything below level 60.

In the final analysis, you might have to wait until your character is level
25 (if not already) and equip the item to find out. An expensive way to go,
but apparantly so few people care about defense < lvl60 that the info is just
not that available.

Well, not wanting to be picky but, no you didn't. You asked "what
will that +14 bonus to defense rating do to her?" not "what will that
+14 bonus to defense rating do to her defense skill?"

Yes, I know that each +5 to the defense *skill* lets me defend as if I'm
one level higher, but the armour doesn't add +14 to defense skill, it
adds +14 to defense *rating.

That's why I want to know how much defense skill a level 25 character
gets out of a +14 bonus to defense rating.
