Once any console hit the 20 million unit sales world wide, it will be
big enough to sustain itself and produce profit for the hardware
manufacturer. Things get complicated when people own more then one
next gen console as they don't usually buy the same copy of the game
for each of their console. Dreamcast total sales in US was around 5
million.

Given that we will most likely have a 3 way tie first time in history.
Well analyist were wrong in the past and why should I be any different

10 million, 20 million, which is it? You're making this up, aren't you?

One of the execs from Microsoft stated before that, historically, the
first console to sell 10 million units was the one which ruled that
generation. I don't recall him specifying any territory, and presumed
that he meant 10 million consoles sold in total. No idea if that's
what the OP was referencing though.

Yep, that's what he said.

I just wonder if it will hold true this generation. I expect to see Wii
have very big numbers coming out of the gates but later on slowing to a
crawl. 360 will continue to steadily sell as the same rate it is now,
while PS3 will start slow, but in the end be selling like hotcakes.
(the range i'm saying is the life time of all the consoles... 6-10
years)
