Where are the pix stored that you take as you wander around in M4? I was
assuming they would be jpegs, or some similar graphics format, but all I can
find are dlls and m4s files. Short of using Shift-PrtScr from within the
game, and then exiting the game (one at a time - very slow), is there any
way to bring those scenes up in a graphics editor?

They're in one of the folders in your Myst IV folder.
I forget which one. Check the subfolders.
The files are viewable in Irfanview and should be viewable
in your web browser too.

In the PC version, on Windows XP:
Open Windows Explorer (or "My Documents") and find the folder
"myst4-revelation savegames" in "My Documents". This contains an empty
journal folder and the saves (*.m4s)

Start Revelation (keep the Windows Explorer window open) and load your
saved game - now the journal folder has your pictures in it, as
pagexxx.jpg where xxx starts from 000 and counts up. You'll have to use
Alt-Tab to switch between the game and your file explorer window.

The jpeg's are 800x450. There is an independent counter somewhere
keeping count of the number of images in the journal, so if you want to
put in your own images you'll have to replace an existing one.

There is a save folder in the Program Files - Myst IV - Revalation
folder, but I've never seen anything in it.

Start Windows Explorer then start Myst IV and load the game you've taken
the pictures within. Press ALT+Tab to switch to Win Explorer and look in
the folder myst4-revelation savegames\journal - the pictures appear as
JPG as long as the game is running in the background. While they are there
you can take copies.

Thank you all. I wondered why the "Journal" folder was always empty...

Geez ,what a process. My hat's off to GS or whoever figured this out the
first time - the correct sequence is like one of the Myst puzzles...

You might find my Revelator application useful:

http://homepage.mac.com/rshayter/Revelator.html

Among other things, it can extract the photos you've made and the notes
you've written that are in a saved game.
