Can someone tell me the exact settings for the red & blue steam
switches?

There is no logic to setting them; it's simple trial & error, and I am
tired of having to redraw the slate and get the steam back over & over.
That is completely unfun in every way.

It seems in every single Myst game there is some tedious little BS
thrown in, and you can either slog through it, ask for the solution, or
quit playing. It completely pisses me off, as the rest of the puzzles
can be logically solved and completed.

Thank you in advance.

Erm,

Are you asking for help? It's hard to tell.

There actually IS logic to the switches, you just haven't sussed it
yet. Hey, I couldn't figure out the weird sound effects being played
at each stop of the submarine in the maze in the first game. Took me
trial and error to get through, which was actually great fun to map.

Okay, here's your hint...

1. Have you found the map nearby? It shows you the path you will need
to send the red and blue steam along.

2. The switches have only three positions, not four, so it's NOT based
on North/South/East/West, it must be something else. It's Turn Left,
Go Straight, Turn Right.

BTW, can't you click on the "Heat" icon at the bottom of your tablet to
redraw it automatically?

Excellent question. I really did not want help, but I also did not want
to have to slog through a puzzle that seemed to have no logic.
I felt like I had basically 3 choices: slog through it with trail &
error, ask for help, or quit playing. All 3 pissed me off royally.

I solved it though, thanks to your hint, and I surely do appreciate it.
You were right, there is a logical solution, and I just had not seen it.

Thank you.

Oh, fantastic - I'm not the only one!! I ended up having to do it three
times, as I'd always quit before completing the age, and so have to repeat
the whole thing.

It was only the last time that I figured out about the sounds - I too have a
comprehensive map SurprisedD

Actually, there is. I really liked this puzzle and was really excited when I
found the logic.

First I thought the red and blue dots on the map were "warm" and "cold", but
then I found the colors on the steam valves. In a couple of seconds I figured
it out and it was very satisfying. I always play with a friend and we both got
very excited. Smile
