** spoiler warning **
Hi all,
Am I the only one that loved the first three Myst games but found Uru
incredibly annoying? I buy these types of games for the mental challenge,
not the physical. After about the 15th try at getting those spores through
the water into the cave, I finally decided I'd had it with Uru. (Yes, I
know I can only jump once or they'll all go away, and I know I need to walk
on the basket to get through the pool. I still don't know what I was
supposed to do when I come to that little stream on the side of the
mountain, but I really no longer care.)
My question: Are Myst IV and V more like the first three, in that they
don't require me to hit the space bar at exactly the right moment, or do I
have to be physically co-ordinated for them? If I wanted a test of my
manual dexterity, I'd buy Doom or something.
If Myst IV and V are like Uru (or even if they're not), can someone suggest
a PC adventure game that's as well done and challenging as Myst and Riven?
Thanks for whatever advice you may have.

Two of my favourites are Syberia (1 & 2) and Longest Journey.

Thanks to all who replied.
I have played Syberia I and II, and The Longest Journey. I enjoyed them all
very much, as you surmised. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I
will try Myst IV and V as well, based on Brad's advice that they are more
like Myst, Riven, and Myst III than Uru.
All the best,
Gnome

First, Myst IV and V are not like Uru and if you liked Myst, Exile and Riven
you will probably like these. Second, I also enjoyed Syberia 1 & 2 which I
learned about in this N.G.

Myst IV is based on the same interaction model that Myst III is - i.e. poitn
and click and at any given point, you can look around as if you're inside a
sphere.
Myst V, however, is full 3D just like Uru, and you can play the game in ffirst
person mode where you walk around just like you do in Doom.
Mys V doesn't offer a third person view, however, and it does offer a classic
mode where you point and click just like any other myst game (but you don't
just switch images, you actually walk to the next hot spot).
The problem with the classic mode is that it's not a good as the old
interaction model. You find yourself clicking in the wrong placers ending up
somewhere else. It's not a huge problem, and the classic mode is better than
the FPS-mode, if you ask me.
I haven't played through Myst V, but given the fact that the game defaults to
classic mode, I have a hard time interaction is anything but point and click.
You can't, for instance, jump i Myst V.

I enjoy most of the DreamCatcher games. DC makes good, fun puzzle geames.
I liked Reah but it might be hard to find now. Crystal Key I & II are fun
but the UI isn't the greatest.
There are also:
Amerzone
TimeScape
Riddle of the Sphynx
Egypt II
Beyond Atlantis I & II
etc.
Enjoy life!

Ah, Dreamcatcher. I love pretty much every game they've created. The
only problem is my computer was cursed such that every DC game I install
has some unfixable glitch that makes it unplayable. My old computer
that is. I should see if the curse holds now that I've upgraded. >> Stay informed about: Uru vs. other Mysts |

The sequel to Longest Journey is due out sometime in the first
quarter 2006. You might want to keep an eye open for that. I think the
name is Dreamfall (or something like that.) >> Stay informed about: Uru vs. other Mysts |

Hey Steve,
This is *great* news!
I am replaying The Longest Journey right now, so I'll be
back up to speed when the sequel arrives.
Many thanks!
